[TRANS] B.A.P. Interview @ K BOOM Magazine

 

B.A.P did/carried out their comeback. Although it was a blank period as short as approximately 2 months, strangely enough, it felt that their seats are very large. Maybe because of that, their comeback this time, gathered a great/much attention than before. Along with B.A.P, there are many comeback of star group, but because their debut achievement, they were particularly shining among those star group. They are not just shining from the surface/appearance, it’s because they shines from the inside.

 

 

The priority role given now is to work well rather than love
The image of B.A.P that the fans think is very strong/powerful. We will surely lost if we fight with them, that is what the imagine would be. We can feel the strength and charisma from the oldest in the group, Bang Yongguk and Himchan, and also the youngest 15 years old Zelo as a rapper standing on stage, giving an impression of a strong aura which do not meet his age. However, their appearance when they got off stage were very cute and boys with nice smile.
—— Although the blank period was about 2 months, it feels like a long time, how have you been? Yongguk: Yes! We were fine! We wanted to show our appearance to our fans fast/soon, we have been preparing with our utmost effort.
—— The music video is really cool! If there is any episode during the shooting please tell us about it. Although I think that there were a lot of hardships/ troubles filming that… Zelo: Please do not pursue too much. Because it was really hard… During shooting, the green paint was painted on our body and after that our skin tone became a lot worse… The shooting was done until midnight and we continue wearing the wet shoes… There were bruises to the extent. Himchan: Because my order of shooting was the latest, I do not have much trouble/difficulties… (laughs).
—— The music video’s scale was really large. I think it took a lot of production costs too… Yongguk: That right. The size of spaceship with the weight of 700kg and height of 18m is very overwhelming. It took approximately 3 months for the staff to complete the spaceship. Everyone look at us can call us “spinal cord breaker (?)”. Eat up the spinal cord (?) of the society… (laughs). Although it’s a joke, it seems like spreading what we saw in a block buster Hollywood movie, I’m very happy.
—— Was there any injury? The performance was also intense, I thought there would be many accident… Yongguk: Of course there was! Perhaps because of the thick makeup the face was swollen here and there… In addition, there was an accident during the scene of kicking choreography. I have been kicked in the face by Zelo. The problem is, the blood came out from my face… Zelo: I’m really sorry. But that wasn’t on purpose. Yongguk: I know this (laughs). Besides that, our whole body was painted and even now it has not disappear… Also I could not found the way (make it disappear)… Also for part in the performance where we spread/open our leg, perhaps because we did not stretch enough, when we get up after shooting, everyone cried in pain (laughs).
—— There is a lot of painful episode… Is there any interesting/funny episode (laughs)? Daehyun: The music video filming location was at more of the coastline in Incheon and I was really troubled because there was no toilet. I wanted to use the bottom of the huge bridge as a toilet but somehow I did not go. I endured for a long time, in the end when I ran/rush to that toilet to get it done, I saw the light of a car from a distance. The soldiers who were riding in the car, they saluted/greeted me when they saw me. Do not look at it in much detail… (laughs).
—— Because of the busy schedule, I thought that you all will not be able to meet your family often too… Jongup: Yes… During this time, I suddenly had time, I secretly went home without telling my parents, everyone was really surprised. Especially my brother who thought that there was a thief entered our house (laugh). I hided secretly and made everyone surprised (laugh). Himchan: Same goes to me. My mother was surprised and let out a huge voice “Kya!”, I think that my father was surprised that he almost fall down, I almost got scold (laughs).
—— If this album is successful, you all will also show great gratitude toward your family. Youngjae: Yes. Because of that we practice hard every day. To be honest, in the beginning, I was concerned whether I were be able to achieve, but I have noticed that if you try hard there is nothing that cannot be done. Love? I am not really interested in that now. We do your best with the role given to us and we do your best not to disappoint your fans, that’s our top goal/objective. Please look forward to our activity this time.

Quickly “give me now” this magazine which introduces artist, a new series will start following after INFINITE ♥ A connect relay with asking question among member. An interview, along with B.A.P’s comeback! A relay in order starting from the maknaes to the leader. Part 1, maknae, Zelo will interview Jongup. Zelo is the maknae in B.A.P and also the tallest. He still has small children cheeks and he’s 15 year old! However, his rap is aggressive to ultra-high-speed. In contrast with the dramatic performance on stage, during the interview, he smiles and talks gently. The on and off gap, the presence of someone who came out from a two-dimensional which is his charm.

If it’s the young Zelo, will you able to have an innocent love?

Zelo: “Finally our series has started! Part 1, me, Zelo, will interview B.A.P’s dancing machine, Jongup hyung, I will explore the presence of my own! Well, let’s begin the question immediately. What is my first impression?”
Jongup: “The first time I saw Zelo was during June last year. We were still trainee at that time. When I came back from school and drop by the practice room, Zelo was there. Because I heard the people in the company said that “a child who is in charge of rap has came”, “is this the child who in charge of rap…, he is tall” that was what I thought of (laughs). When we got along, at that time we talked about various things right?”
Zelo: “Yes. We talked about dancing right. Then Jongup hyung told me “Show me your dance”.”
Jongup: “Yeah. Zelo danced very well while he was a little shy. With surprising ability, although he was still a junior high school student”
Zelo: “A year has passed since then, Jongup hyung, from what you saw, did I change?”
Jongup: “When we first met, because having such technique during that age, on the other hand the thought being an important person, because you are so skilful, I thought you were someone who brag about yourself. I thought that will you will also show your pride to the senior. But, in fact when we live together, you are very pure. I can know your progress with your effort and passion, I also saw you growing daily. Recently, your muscle is also growing (laughs). Zelo: “Huhuhu, I am glad/happy. Because I admire Jongup hyung’s muscle. During 『Power』, Jongup hyung’s performance is really cool!”
Jongup: “Difficult techniques/moves are also introduced. One of the technique/move is called “Wa Wa (?)”. Then, at the high point of the song, there is a technique/move called “Hook”. The choreography which look like chopping the wood, become the point of this song”
Zelo: “The feature is also the dance which used the spray. What should I do if I drop the spray when I am dancing?”

Zelo: “Yes, Sir! Well then, the next question. Compare/illustrate me with “I am OO person”.”
Jongup: “Zelo is “a young person”. Young boy! Still a child (laughs)”
Zelo: “Although I’m still a child, is there a part/point like that which can be respected? Please praise me~”
Jongup: “First of all, height (laughs). I am a bit weak standing in front of public, but when Zelo stand and show in front of public, he likes to draw people’s attention. It is also necessary for B.A.P, I’m envious/jealous of that part of Zelo. Besides, when practice dancing while playing over the music, I feel like it matches Zelo. When we dance together, it’s very interesting”
Zelo: “We match/fits right!”
Jongup: “Our taste(?) of laughter are the same right! In the future, I feel that we will likely to have a long-term relationship (laughs)”
Zelo: “If you were to introduce a member to your sister, who will you introduce?”
Jongup: “Zelo! The reason is because he is the youngest (laughs). If I have a sister, will she be same age as Zelo or younger than Zelo, because of that, would be able to have the most pure love/purest love. Although the other hyungs are not bad, but it’s a little…. (sweat)”

Yongguk: “To other groups who people seeks for cute or pretty element, our fans, I feel that they seek for the “cool” element within B.A.P. We can show our cute appearance anytime (laughs), however, our manly figure is only been shown during our music activity”

—— So far, you have been active with 3 songs which are 『Warrior』, 『Secret Love』 and 『Power』, what do you think you have growth in performance vise?
Jongup: “During 『Warrior』’s activity, I have increased strength and also expressive power with strong masculine also been trained. The quality of performance has been increased. Besides, we are able to become more fashionable…”
Himchan: “(while watching in suspense on Jongup’s remark) Well, until here!”
All members: ”Hahaha (laughs)”

What is B.A.P fighting with?! And what is the presence of “Mato”?

—— By the way, everyone, as a warrior, now, what are you fighting against?
Deahyun: “Recently, fighting against the desire to sleep in the early morning”
Youngjae: “I fight everyday! I have to diet, I have to practice as well, I also have to digest the schedule, a lot of things. I want to eat, I want to rest, I want to play, fighting as every desire (laughs)”

—— But, Youngjae, you have won the fight right, you look very thin.
Youngjae: “I have to become thinner/lose more weight…”
Yongguk: “From the time of debut, you have lose 5-6 kilo right”
Himchan: “I am also similar to Youngjae, I feel that I am fighting for 24 hours. All the things may become a problem. That’s why I have the feeling of continue fighting”
Yongguk: “Everyday, I would like to write a dairy, but when it turns to middle of the night, I do not feel like doing anything else (laughs). It’s not about writing the events that happen in the dairy, but wanting to write about the words that remain most in my memory on that day itself”
Zelo: “I also want to write in my dairy about the events that remain in my memory and memorable things but I forgot because I was tired. Even though later I would be absolute to do it myself, but I did not quite continue it…. This is what I am fighting against now”
Jongup: “I have a lot of things that I want to do, but it seems rather hard to start. I am fighting against myself. Since I like painting, I want to draw a painting~ “

—— The Matoki which has been drawn on the CD jacket is impressive, what is its existence.
Zelo: “A mascot that watches over our growth. As we grow, it grows together with us! (Yongguk did a thumb up here 「Good job!])”
Himchan: “Our own self!”
Daehyun: “In 『Warrior』 it was only the head, but in [Power] it is the whole body”
Himchan: “By the time when the fifth album come out, maybe it will have wings!”

The evolution of absurdity and combat warrior with the comeback of 『Power』

—— At the end of April, was the comeback of 『Power』!
Yongguk: “We have already been preparing since early February, during the second half of 『Warrior』 activity. I think the theme was clearer, and the sound can be upgraded intensely. With debut work 『Warrior』, we have shown B.A.P’s policy, I think that with 『Power』, the message from B.A.P was able to emit”

—— Yongguk, as a lyricist, what is the thing that you care about?
Yongguk: “I think that to convey a story is the most important. The music of B.A.P is that message is put into it, which is different from other idol. To convey message to all the people who listen to our music, but I think that this is the basic as an as an artist”

—— Last time, Yongguk said 「I want to emit a social message」, what is the social interest that you have now?
Yongguk: “There is a region in West Africa called Sahel. There are famine and water shortages, as well as holding varies issues such as civil war, things like how I would be able to help the children there”

—— In 『Warrior』, the warrior that fight against the absurdity of society. In 『Power』 they become warriors who came from outer space to conquer the absurdity of Earth. What does “Warrior” mean to everyone?
Zelo: “Masculine. Masculinity/Manliness!”
Himchan: “To me, warrior is someone who speak the truth”

—— 「Absurdity and fight」, the theme music/song as an idol.
Daehyun: “Personally, I thought it is different from other idol’s song, people who support and seem to think that a group called B.A.P is something different”

Before debut, there is a program called 『Ta-Dah It’s B.A.P』 on MTV Korea, leader, Yongguk did a collaboration with BEAST’s Yosoeb and Secret’s Ji Eun. Just before debut, Yongguk and 15 years old talent rapper K-Pop industry’s maknae, Zelo, started activity as BANG & ZELO. During the increasing expectation, at the end of January this year, B.A.P made their debut by holding a large-scale showcase which attracted 3 thousand people. The debut song [Warrior] with the theme of absurdity in the world and struggle of society, ranked 10th on the Billboard’s World Album Chart. In February, they made their first appearance to the Japanese media through this magazine and also obtain a great response. They started their 2nd Single 『Power』 activities, we also catch up with them in Seoul as they reached their 100day since debut. In addition to this interview, B.A.P’s series has also started from this month onwards. 「Hanryu Pia」 supports B.A.P!

The truth of secret love, if it’s you, what would you do?

—— In previous story, after the manly『 Warrior』, they started their activity with a 180 degree image differ with a delicate ballad song 『Secret Love』. Although it’s a song depicting the hidden romance between entertainers, is this the real experience of the lyricist, Yongguk?
Yongguk: ”Ah~, it’s not that although I have been told often (laughs). I wrote this when I was inspired by the movie 『Notting Hill』. I did not want to write about a common love song. Since the output was good, it also became the memorable piece among my songs. As for myself, I have not experience secret love before (laughs)”

—— If now, you are in love, will you keep it a secret from your member?
All members “…. (Silence). (In a low voice) Behind, behind!”
(Manager “Everyone, this means they will not be in love”)
All members “(In a low voice) Scary! (laughs)”

—— In the CD featuring, which is the same company’s senior, Secret, Ji Eun, during recording, what did you all talk about with her?
Daehyun: “As Ji Eun senpai is also a very busy person, we did not have any time that match which we can have a special talk”
Youngjae: “Indeed, it feels like a secret love (laughs). Although the expression of feeling was difficult, Ji Eun senpai who has recorded earlier, because of that by listening to the song as reference, it was very helpful to us”
Himchan: “In music program, we had a collaboration with Ailee, the interpretation of the song is very good”
Yongguk: “That’s right. Before going on stage, we practiced together, the power of expression was great. She seemed to interpret after listening the song herself. That’s why, did we do it better?”

—— In Korea’s reality program 『Ta-Dah It’s B.A.P』, you all self-produced 『Secret Love』’s MV and each one has a role right. Please tell us about the episode during the production.
Deahyun: “My position was the writer, Youngjae, the director, and Yongguk hyung was in charge of the camera, because of they were too eager, the shooting was done over a long period of time. The staff and production team did not complain because the two were too engrossed… (laughs)”

1) ZELO : We sleep in the same room. There are beds but I prefer the floor. I like to sleep on the floor next to you also. I always get into the gap next to you to sleep, does that annoy you? Jong up : No problem.(^-^)

3) SECRET’s interview. Jieun : I worked with Bang Yongguk. However, when I first met him, I was surprised because the speed when he was speaks, he spoke very slow… kkk. He takes two seconds to answer when we ask him questions.(*^^*)

4) Zinger : Nowadays I study English with Jong up. He is so polite! There are no honorifics in English but he says it to nuna(means big sister) anyway when he speaks in English. He is cute like a puppy.

[Interview] BAP Power Era @ Hanryu Pia Magazine Part II

B.A.P appeared in featured music, and also B.A.P’s file poster! Furthermore! B.A.P’s serial story has already started which released on the 5/22 「Hanryu Pia 6/30 Issue」 magazine, everyone, have you checked it out? Since the release of 2/22 「Hanryu Pia 3/31 Issue」, they have appeared in this magazine for the second time. The second round of interview pattern in Seoul will be publish today ♪ Although they will wrap up『Power』activities this week, please do not feel lonely because the series of B.A.P will still continue in this magazine. Everyone who bought the magazine, please do not forget about the application of signed polaroid present! There is also a group photo, but there will also be a member series appeared precious shot (deadline of submission is no later than 6/21). Oh, as for today, we will show you a little of the state for the release of 6/22 「Series Vol. 2」 ~.

By the way, when he↑ (referring to Youngjae) was being told 「Amazing! That hairstyle looks like a manga (comic) character!」, he answered 「It is also famous in Japan right? Doesn’t it seem like a ferocious turtle! ? Erm, what was that name again. Anyway, it is a ferocious turtle. It seems like that right?」. At that time, “ferocious turtle” did not cross the mind of the interview staff. When I think back, I wanted to say 「Alligator snapping turtle」. 

On this day, a video message was shot to commemorate the “serial starting on Hanryu Pia” (Here is the link for the video message from B.A.P)! Regarding the comments and the meaning in Japanese, 「For this? Is the expression right?」 which the members asked their manager and also calling up their Japanese teacher to confirm about the small nuance, giving their utmost effort on it. From such appearance, I felt the serious effort of B.A.P. The video shooting was done within 1 shot. During the rehearsal time, Younjae thrust the other members in Japanese by saying 「Please remember」, indeed the brain of B.A.P (laughs).

During the photo shooting, because of the cameraman’s instruction, the six of them try to live up to it by showing a variety of poses and facial expression. Other than their own shooting, they looked at the monitor, and said various things (laughs). On this day, during the solo cut, Jongup was the one who praised everyone with 「Oh!」. Well, the new series of【Search/Explore B.A.P!】just started, Hanryu Pia’s special planning “relay interview” which is interview connecting from member to member. In addition, a version up, where you can feel a lot more about the relationship among members, one by one. The pair of maknae line who appeared first. How was it? For this two, with the aggressiveness on stage which is unbelievable, but they were a smiling pair when they are talking side by side. Anyway, the two of them are harmonious even during shooting. A maskless Zelo which is surprisingly precious.

And, another thing in this series, there is a section called【Drawing B.A.P】! Not just the two of them, the other members will appear one by one, drawing the members, and write a single word message regarding the model. Their personality also appears when they are drawing. Some member finish drawing smoothly, there is also member who take time drawing it carefully, beside the mission there is also member who even draws a picture of the staff, they become a bit impatient because it seems that the drawing paper that was prepare was not enough.

Although the notice has already been uploaded, the magazine will be release on 5/22 「Hanryu Pia 6/30 Issue」’s feature music is B.A.P appearance and also B.A.P’s file poster! Furthermore! This will be the series of B.A.P starting issue ♪ Have you watched the video message from B.A.P? This will be the second appearance of B.A.P since the release of 2/22 「Hanryu Pia 3/31 Issue」. The last interview, at the beginning of February, was immediately after B.A.P’s debut. That interview was their first to receive media coverage in Japan. This time, they just have their 2nd single 『Power』 comeback, and they completely changed their hair colour. The interview pattern of B.A.P in Seoul will be published in two parts! Today, we will introduce a little bit ahead of the magazine.

Although the interview was from the night, six people came into the studio cheerfully. When being asked 「It’s been a long time, were you all doing fine?」 the one who greeted me in Japanese was Himchan. 6 of them answered 「Ittadakimasu」 when sweets souvenirs were prepared for them, since they were eating so fast… I asked the manager 「Perhaps, they haven’t taken your dinner?」and he answer 「That’s right」. That is why we decided to order a delivery here. What did everyone eat? Who was the one ordered?… For that side, you will know once you have read the magazine carefully! Please read every corner (laughs).

To start a new series of B.A.P, an interview connecting from member to member which is Hanryu Pia’s special planning “relay interview” (INFINITE’s relay interview was series over 7 times from 7/31 issue in 2011 to 1/31 issue in 2012). The first B.A.P member who is going to appear is…. the two who are in the maknae line! ↓

Q. Oppa, during Power promotions, in the broadcasting part of ‘bomb bomb follow me’, is the smile part of the intention?
A. Yes. I saw all the broadcasting and it seems like it’s the most weakest point, wasn’t it too bright?

Q. Oppa’s deep, low bass voice is really attractive, so far in your life, have you ever hated having it? I’m a girl and I have a bass voice myself, it’s rather complicated T_T
A. I never thought that my voice is attractive, never even thought that I hated it. I love it myself. That’s about it.

Q. I’m confused towards the members, are they still OK at this point? In the song Power, there’s this lyric (정의는 없어) ‘it has no definition’, really in this society, who is there to believe, I’m confused. Also, in the lyric, there’s the word ‘ego’, if ‘ego’ is 자아(ja-a)ego in korean), when I heard the song, the meaning of the 자아 gives a a lot of different feeling that the 자아 that I know.
I’m curious of what meaning it tried to grasp, the word 자아, in the song. It somewhat bother me to why the word ‘ego’ was chosen, when 자아 has a lot of other meaning.I was curious and can’t think of any other possibilities but to ask the question since I first listen to the music. It was something that left me wandering. 🙂
A. There are possibilities with the definition of this word but I guess it’s no different from the other. In ‘POWER’, there is no other definition other than it being about social justice. Just think of it, this is specifically pointed to them, with anger, saying ‘don’t you have conscience?’. The lyrics to the rap parts in Zelo’s, ego is about self-esteem. When B.A.P sings the song, it means that we are undeterred by them. That is the reason why we said ego, in other words, it’s our self-esteem.

Q. Yonggukkie oppa! Among all the songs that you made, where would you get your inspiration from?
A. It’s various. For ‘Secret Love’, I was inspired by a movie. ‘What the hell’ was inspired by the social issues. I got my inspiration for ‘Power’ from Picasso’s piece of work ‘Guernica’. Today, I just wait for anything to give me some, I anticipate it everyday.

Q. I just recently read the lyrics and I was very inspired. There is always this constant challenge we have in ourself when we want to achieve something, your appearance really had touched my heart deeply, I think I want to live like that myself too. Whatever the dream, there should be no giving up but to make the best out of the dream is what I’m curious about. Please give me strength so that my dream is impossible.
A. First, I think you’re in desperation. And you should know that it’s the value that’s important. (Say to yourself) My dream is about how long specifically, (who to) meet and gaze upon others, in a desperate hope, that hope will be the driving force to my dream. Giving up will show that I’m weak, perhaps even my appearance will be that as of a dung. What I say is, you have to reflect upon yourself.

Since my family have pressed me on this, I would like to go out on this in the future, I want to know on how to start, how to practice, also the process of what I’ll be facing. A. There really is none on ‘how to do it’. It’s more to your mind and attitude and of course, the hip hop element in you. As for me, I have never once received a professional music education. I just enjoyed music, it’s the fun in playing it that I discovered. The first and last of it will vary. The hard feeling of it and the bump to play is really different.

A. Being alone or play alone.
Clear your head from thinking.
Don’t think of anything and whatever it is, be at a quiet place.

A. Many people has shown interest in us, I feel kind of burdened.

A. I tried singing. Except rap.

Q. During Warrior and Power, you added an original strong expression in the choreography, or not, it’s more like an ad-lib, is that how you like it? I always get this big impact whenever I listen to it T_T I really, really like it! That expression!
A. Hmm… I improvise. At first, it was not but title by little, I changed it. I won’t change the expression ^_^

A. When I was young, I came across with various genres of music. So, when I was in my high school days, I went for my first casting and I got in. I was charmed by hook song and hip hop went I entered university.
